Step back in time with Doraemon

There will also be an interactive trail online, called Let's Jalan-Jalan!, which will be launched on Saturday where armchair explorers can learn fun facts about 14 neighbourhoods with an island-wide hunt.

"Because of the pandemic, it's even more important we have Doraemon at the museum. I can imagine the happiness we give to our audience, especially at this difficult time."

The installation is in line with the museum's new positioning as a people's museum....the Doraemon installation has been curated with highlights of the museum's collections from the 1960s through to the 1980s: "It is the merging of the contemporary with the historical aspect.

The pandemic has prompted the museum to think seriously about the institution's role and function, she adds: "We do have a very important role in various aspects of people's life. The museum is not just about Singapore history or history of civilisations, but also our social role. Increasingly, as we look at the depressing conditions and the circumstances, we also think about how the museum can be a social space for people, how it is related to the well-being and the mental health of our audience."

This profile was filled with photos apparently pilfered from Mr Lim's public Instagram profile, simonlim.personality

sent photographs of Mr Lim - also taken from the DJ's public profile - as " updates" on how his day was going

When contacted, Mr Lim told ST that it was not the first time he had spotted fake profiles of himself online, adding that he found it "really scary" to have his identity stolen and his photos used to "catfish" someone and get money.

"After cows, pigs have the second-largest global environmental footprint. Pigs are the most widely eaten animal in the world, accounting for about 38 per cent of meat production worldwide.

"Even worse than cows, using pigs to make pork poses major threats to public health. Swine and avian flus are the most likely pandemic vectors because they pass easily to humans via faeces in slaughterhouses.

This year's Nobel Prize in chemistry honours a revolution

 Click HERE

If can't access above link, click HERE

It will be a revolution that will some day allow us to cure diseases, fend off virus pandemics and - if we decide it is wise - design babies with the genetic features we want for them.

Even though her high school counsellor told her girls did not become scientists, she decided she would...The award is also a great testament to the growing power of women in the life sciences.

When this year's prize was announced, Dr Charpentier said it would "provide a message specifically to young girls who would like to follow the path of science and to show them that in friendship, women can also be awarded prizes".

In 2018, Chinese scientist He Jiankui, who had been to some of Dr Doudna's gene-editing conferences, shocked the world by using Crispr to help produce the world's first "designer babies". He edited human embryos to remove a gene that produces a receptor for the human immunodeficiency virus that causes Aids.

Crispr raises some tough moral questions. Should we edit our species to make us less susceptible to deadly viruses?..Should we eliminate disorders such as Huntington's disease, sickle cell anaemia and cystic fibrosis? That sounds good, too. And what about congenital deafness or blindness? Or being short? Or depressed? Hmm. How should we think about that? A few decades from now, if it becomes possible and safe, should we allow parents to enhance the IQ and physical strength of their kids? Should we let them decide eye colour? Skin colour? Height?

the technology that will increasingly determine how nature works.

Big tech abuses gatekeeper power, says US lawmaker

 Click HERE

Note the point on unfair stifling of competition....

Each platform uses their gatekeeper position to protect their own power

"By controlling the infrastructure of the digital age, they have surveilled other businesses to identify potential rivals - and ultimately bought out, copied, or cut off their competitive threats."

"We've got to make sure that we keep high tech competitive so that smaller, innovative companies can compete,"

For decades, the Internet giants have enjoyed laissez-faire regulation in the United States, including scant antitrust enforcement of mergers. Still, they are coming under increasing attack in Washington over a range of issues including misinformation, hate speech, election meddling, and what Republicans decry as anti-conservative bias.

It's "nearly impossible" to stop dominant companies from buying smaller rivals that could become future competitors, like Facebook's acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp

Note the various barbs being traded, confirming that democracy is indeed a popularity contest, coz one way to be popular is to put down other people....

As Mr Biden tried to restart his explanation, the President cut him off again, and the Democratic nominee shot back: "Will you shut up, man? This is so un-presidential."

Mr Biden responded with a blunt retort: "You're the worst president America has ever had."

Mr Biden even called the President a "clown" - twice.

Mr Trump, 74, has called Mr Biden "Sleepy Joe", an apparent dig at the 77-year-old Democrat's vitality.....mocked his opponent's academic performance at the University of Delaware where, according to the Washington Post, Mr Biden graduated 506th in a class of 688. "He was the lowest or almost the lowest in your class. Don't ever use the word smart with me," Mr Trump said. "Because you know what, there's nothing smart about you, Joe."

After Greta Thunberg, here's an even younger activist!

Qns worth asking:

=shouldn't they be in school learning so that they can contribute more in future, and so that they are not just imitating others but knowing what they are actually fighting for?

=at 8 years old, how much do they know? shouldn't they be enjoying their childhood? isn't this a pre-mature entry into the adult world?

Note the role of the media/internet in igniting the fire of activism in her [incidentally, Greta Thunberg was influenced by the documentaries of famed environmentalist, David Attenborough:

One of the world's youngest climate change activists, Licypriya was influenced by the images of the devastation caused by the Nepal earthquakes in 2015 that killed some 9,000 people and destroyed one million homes.
