Quotation on Celebrity influence

Unless you were on planet Mars, or hibernating in some god-forsaken rat-hole. you'd have known by now that Ke Zhen Dong and Jaycee Chan (Jackie Chan's son) had been arrested for drug-related offences. Ke's mentor, 'Nine Pair of Daggers' (weird moniker but brilliant writer!) said something about celebrity influence which I thought was quite thought-provoking, and I hereby attempt to translate his words:

"The more talent you possess, and the more prominent you are, the more your works will be inter-linked with the efforts of others, and the greater will be the world that you can lift up on your shoulders, (but by that same logic), the greater also will be the shattering effect on the hearts of others when you hurl that world down."

Doesn't make you go 'WOW!'?! not so much in what he says, but how he says it! Of course, I could not totally capture all the nuances from the original Chinese version where there is use of repetitive technique to create an emphasis; it definitely sounds more impactful in Chinese. Nine Dagger's new movie is going to be out soon, based on another of his book, ["Waiting for Someone" Coffee]; the soundtracks are already out... Be sure to catch it if u are in need of some therapeutic distraction during this intense period leading up to the 'A' levels.....

Legislation doesn't signal lack of tolerance

Some nice comparisons/analogies here that serve to explain effectively the writer's points...., not to mention some interesting arguments that u may find useful in ur essays/AQ....

Qn: How far, in your country, should unpopular views be open to discussion? (Cambridge 2013)
[Note the point on legislation can be used as a point for the above qn if the phrase 'should be' is taken out and replaced by the word 'are'. Nevertheless, you can still bring it in to 'deepen' ur discussion]

Food Scandal in China

Another food safety example....the idea of food ethics in the face of profits....note also the role of the media as the watchdog which is responsible for bringing to light the scandal....and how MNCs have the incentive to abide by food ethics if they want to secure their consumer base and hence profits...

censorship of terrorist website

A current example of how censorship can be justified to stem the spread of radical ideologies...

Qn: Governments should not interfere with the right of the people to express themselves freely on the internet. Do you agree?
