China’s Education Ministry said in May that it had worked with companies to create 3.76 million jobs for fresh graduates. Political analysts described this as a move by the ruling Communist Party of China to absorb a third of 2024’s graduating batch of about 11.8 million students, to minimise the risk of social instability caused by high youth unemployment.
