Vehicle owners, especially those driving older models, fear that ethanol use will reduce fuel efficiency, or mileage. In addition, many believe that the corrosive biofuel will damage older engines, which are not compatible with higher-ethanol blends, necessitating costly repairs.
Emphasising that ethanol blending supports the rural economy, thereby creating income and employment opportunities in the agricultural and biofuel sectors, the ministry press statement said “it has helped India reduce carbon dioxide emissions by seven million tonnes, contributing to climate change goals”
