ST poll: Safety before privacy in AI surveillance

Essentially two broad points that can be framed as a rebuttal pair: security vs invasion of privacy/freedom

people here viewed AI surveillance for safety and security positively.

If AI surveillance becomes too intrusive to the extent that our freedom to be left alone is encroached upon, such as with pre-emptive policing, people will have reservations

Ultimately citizens and individuals must feel that all these initiatives at the end of the day are focused on delivering welfare benefits for them

AI has also been known to perpetuate racism and prejudice...if the data collected shows that people from a particular race, occupation or district have a higher incidence of turning to crime, defaulting on loans, doing badly in exams, being less productive, etc, then the AI will judge and treat applicants accordingly:
the technique that allows machines to learn from enormous sets of data is less acceptable when used to determine people's credit worthiness or work productivity.
