Examples of Arts

Do you agree that the arts allow us to understand the world better? This is a qn which I showed
most of you recently. It is a qn which you may not want to attempt during the exams, but for those with the inclination, here are a few examples (some of which surfaced in the papers today) which are worth knowing....(note that u can use these famous examples to open or close ur essay with a BANG!)



Pic 1:
This is that hauntingly poignant Photograph of the buzzard looming behind a starving Somalian child -- often cited as a metaphor for the plight of the country.


Pic 2: The Photograph that supposedly ended the Vietnam War by alerting the Americans at home to what their soldiers were doing to the people (and innocent children) of another country.

Pic 3: Punk Music -- often seen as subversive and anti-establishment, but can be a force for good if the govt in qn is corrupt.

Pic 4: Another powerful war Painting (mural to be exact). In fact, this is often deemed THE war painting, as it's by Picasso and it depicts the horrors of the Spanish Civil War at Guernica. The artwork is entitled "Guernica".
